To ask the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster what support for innovation will be provided by his Department outside development areas after 1 April; and if he will make a statement.

The White Paper "DTI—the department for Enterprise" (Cm 278) sets out in chapter 8 "Innovation, using Technology" the support for innovation available throughout Great Britain. This support covers collaborative research, technology transfer, small firms and start-ups, exceptional projects, space and other research programmes. Support for collaborative research is described in more detail in the "Research and Technology Initiative" booklet, and I am sending the hon. Member a copy.
