HC Deb 10 February 1988 vol 127 c256W
47. Mr. Steen

To ask the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster what steps he will take to ensure that inner cities benefit from the single European market from 1992.

Mr. Atkins

Completion of the single market will create opportunities and challenges for all sectors of the economy by ensuring unimpeded access to a market of 320 million people. Our policies reflect the need to equip inner-city firms to compete for that business.

65. Mr. Alexander

To ask the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster how he will encourage small firms to take advantage of the 1992 single European market.

Mr. Alan Clark

The national awareness campaign which we are preparing is intended to ensure that all companies in Britain, large and small, are fully aware of the opportunities and challenges of the single European market. Under the enterprise initiative (launched on 13 January) financial assistane is available to firms of fewer than 500 employees for consultancy support to help them improve their competitive performance.

67. Mr. Riddick

To ask the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster what plans he has to prepare British companies for the competition of the single European market in 1992.

Mr. Alan Clark

We are determined to ensure that British business is given every chance to take advantage of the new opportunities which will come from creating a single Community market. We will shortly announce the details of a major awareness campaign to reach companies throughout the country.
