HC Deb 10 February 1988 vol 127 c269W
Mr. Batiste

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services what estimate he has of the proportion of the population of(a) England and (b) Wales which is not covered, in whole or in part, by private health insurance.

Mrs. Currie

It is estimated that 91 per cent. of the United Kingdom population was without any form of private health insurance in 1986. The latest available estimate for England only is for 1983, when 92 per cent. of the population was without cover. Information for Wales is a matter for my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Wales.
