HC Deb 10 February 1988 vol 127 cc240-1W
Mr. Cryer

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence if his Department has made any evaluation of the implications of the radiation contamination of clean-up workers following the 21 January 1968 accident involving a nuclear weapon-carrying B-52 US air force bomber at the US air force base at Thule, Greenland, for emergency procedures at all Royal Air Force bases used by nuclear capable aircraft.

Mr. Ian Stewart

The alleged contamination of personnel involved in the clean-up operation after the Thule accident in 1968 is a matter for the US and Danish authorities. However, the accident was studied in detail by the Ministry of Defence, and all pertinent lessons are now reflected in our nuclear weapon accident contingency plans, the details of which remain classified.
