Mr. Wray

To ask the Secretary of State for Employment what information he has for each year since 1975 as to the figures for average hourly earnings of industrial workers in(a) Belgium, (b) Britain, (c) Germany, (d) France, (e) Holland, (f) Sweden, (g) the United State of America and (h) Italy.

Mr. Lee

The table sets out the available information published by the International Labour Office for average hourly wage of employees in manufacturing industry.

1 Average gross earnings per hour of men and women of all ages (except salaried employees) unless otherwise indicated. See notes for each country. Figures relate to annual averages unless otherwise indicated.
2 October of each year.
3 Includes family allowance paid directly by employer.
4 Includes value of payments in kind.
5 Second quarter of each year. Adults only. Including holiday and sick leave payments and the value of payments in kind.
6 Full time male manual workers on adult rates of pay—includes quarrying after 1983 and all adults prior to 1980.
