HC Deb 10 February 1988 vol 127 c287W
Mr. Allen McKay

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what steps he intends to take to encourage the British Boxing Board of Control to eliminate unnecessary risk to boxers in fights.

Mr. Ridley

The Government plan no such steps. The safety of those taking part in professional boxing is a matter for the British Boxing Board of Control. British boxing is subject to stringent medical safeguards and the board's medical advisers take full account of the latest medical research.
