HC Deb 09 February 1988 vol 127 c172W
27. Mrs. Mahon

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services how many young people in England and Wales left local authority care to live independently in 1986–87.

Mrs. Currie

Information is not available centrally in exactly the form requested. Of the 12,400 young people aged 16 years and over who left local authority care in England during the year ending 31 March 1986, a total of 1,800 were living independently or in lodgings immediately prior to leaving care.

Information for 1986–87 is not available yet. Information for Wales is a matter for my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Wales.
