To ask the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster, pursuant to his reply to the hon. Member for Oldham, Central and Royton (Mr. Lamond) on 13 January, what evidence of injury to United Kingdom textile firms as a result of Turkish acrylic yarns was contained in letters sent to him by Mr. B. J. Spencer, president of the Textile Confederation, on 25 November 1987 and by Peter Booth, national secretary of the Textile Transport General Workers Union group on 18 September 1987 and 6 January, drawing his attention to firms in the United Kingdom forced into short-time working and layoffs; what action he is taking substantially to reduce Turkish acrylic yarn imports into the United Kingdom; and if he will make a statement.
