To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science what is the average amount of grant received by students in full-time education.

In 1985–86, the latest year for which figures are available, the average maintenance grant, net of assessed parental and other contributions, paid to students in receipt of mandatory or full-value local education authority discretionary awards was £1,202.
