HC Deb 09 February 1988 vol 127 c165W
Mr. Fisher

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland if he will establish a judicial inquiry to examine the role of Sir John Hermon, Chief Constable of the Royal Ulster Constabulary and other senior Royal Ulster Constabulary officers, in relation to specific allegations arising out of the Stalker-Sampson inquiry; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Tom King

The Director of Public Prosecutions reached his conclusions on the results of a very thorough criminal investigation. There is no justification for a judicial inquiry.

Mr. Flynn

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland whether in view of the fact that Mr. John Stalker had recommended the prosecution of Royal Ulster Constabulary officers, up to the rank of chief superintendent for offences, including conspiring to pervert the course of justice and perjury, he will seek the suspension of Sir John Hermon, Chief Constable, pending a full judicial inquiry.

Mr. Tom King
