Mr. Mudd

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales if he will list all the motorway and trunk road contracts in Wales with a works cost of £1 million or more which his Department intends to award in 1988–89 showing, in each case, the total value of the contract and the expenditure likely to be incurred in that year.

[holding answer 8 February 1988]: Subject to the satisfactory completion of statutory procedures, the completion of engineering design and the availability of resources, we hope to let contracts for the following major schemes in 1988–89:

  • A48 Nantycaws-Coed Hirion Bypass
  • A55 Travellers Inn
  • A483 Chirk Bypass
  • A55 Pen-y-Clip Tunnels

It is not possible to give the cost of the contracts or the expenditure to be incurred in 1988–89, since this will depend on the value of the accepted tenders and the contractors' programmes of work.
