To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will make a statement on the implementation of Project 2000.

Mr. Newton

We want nurses to receive an education and training which not only equips them for their future roles but is sufficiently attractive to recruit—and retain—those who might otherwise be tempted into other fields. So we fully recognise the importance of the proposals that the UKCC has put forward which are designed to meet those ends and hope to be in a position to make a response by Easter.
