HC Deb 09 February 1988 vol 127 c195W
Mr. Simon Hughes

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will make a statement on the loss consequent on National Health Service payments to doctors whose time is lost due to lack of nurses and support staff.

Mr. Newton

There would be some loss to the National Health Service if a doctor were unable to perform his scheduled duties due to the lack of nurses and support staff. A number of initiatives are already in hand aimed at improving the recruitment and retention of nursing and support staff.
