To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will publish a table setting out for 1987–88 and 1988–89 the estimated number of(a) families and (b) persons in each health region or equivalent, and in Scotland as a whole, showing net average expenditure on health and personal social services per family and per person in each year, and distinguishing between expenditure on the National Health Service and on the personal social services

Several systems are in use in North America and others are being developed here. We are considering whether electronic monitoring would be useful to enforce curfews or track an offender's whereabouts. This could be part of new arrangements for punishment in the community, as an alternative to custody. We hope to announce proposals later this year.
