To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment whether clerical grades in the Crown Suppliers will be given the option of transferring back into the Civil Service, were the Crown Suppliers to be sold.

Mr. Chope

Yes, but only if there are vacant posts for which Crown Suppliers clerical employees are suitable at the appropriate time.

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what provisions will be made in respect of Civil Service pension rights for clerical grades in the event of the sale of the Crown Suppliers; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Chope

In the event of a sale, clerical and other grades would have the benefit of pension rights under their new employer comparable to those which they now possess.
