HC Deb 08 February 1988 vol 127 c64W
Mr. Galbraith

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what assessment he has made of the effect that his draft decision letter on the Strathclyde structure plan 1986 update will have on development of the green belt in Strathclyde.

Lord James Douglas-Hamilton

The Strathclyde structure plan update (1986) proposes no substantial changes to the structure plan policies concerning the Clyde Valley green belt. In his draft modifications to the update my right hon. and learned Friend equally proposes no important changes to these policies. The draft modifications to the proposals in the update concerning residential development require additional land to be made available for housing in certain areas. The identification of sites would be a matter for district councils, in consultation with local housebuilders. The effect on the existing green belt is unlikely to be significant.

Mr. Galbraith

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will make it his policy to take account of evidence that 700 houses are now being built and 1,700 others are planned to be built on land previously rejected by house builders before issuing his final decision letter on the Strathclyde structure plan 1986 update.

Lord James Douglas-Hamilton

Yes.
