HC Deb 08 February 1988 vol 127 cc113-4W
Mr. Sean Hughes

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services what is the basis and the sources from which he compiled the estimated number of claimants in Great Britain who will be eligible for transitional payments under the income support scheme.

Mr. Scott

The source used for estimating the number of transitional additions under income support is the 1986 annual statistical inquiry, the latest information available, uprated to take account of subsequent increases in benefit rates. The rules governing the award and calculation of transitional additions have been applied to this information to provide the estimates.

statistical inquiry. The sample size for this exercise is too small to obtain a precise figure of the number of claimants with dependent children.
