HC Deb 08 February 1988 vol 127 c31W
Dr. Marek

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment if he has any plans for the restoration and maintenance of the monument in Millbank gardens in commemoration of the emancipation of slaves.

Mr. Moynihan

[holding answer 5 February 1988]: Repairs to the stonework inside the Buxton memorial and to the gargoyles will shortly be carried out. Of the eight statues around the top of the memorial only three remain at present. One has been removed for repair and four were stolen. Remodelled and recast replacements will be positioned on the memorial.
