To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services what is the amount of his Department's allocation specifically for the care of mentally handicapped patients.

[holding answer 5 February 1988]: In the main the Department does not allocate funds for specific purposes. Within a national framework of health care priorities it is for each health authority to determine how its resources, including allocations, should be used.
