HC Deb 08 February 1988 vol 127 cc22-4W
Mr. Simon Hughes

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment how many households were housed by each London borough from its waiting lists through allocation procedures (a) during 1983–84; (b) during 1984–85; (c) during 1985–86, and (d) during 1986–87.

Mrs. Roe

Local authorities' annual housing investment programme returns include the numbers of dwellings let on secure tenancies, in the years ending 31 March, to households under normal waiting list allocation procedures. Figures for individual authorities appear in column D9C of the "HIP1 all items print" for 1984 and 1985 and in column E9C for 1986 and 1987; copies of all these documents are in the Library.

Mr. Teddy Taylor

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will publish a table showing those housing authorities where the council housing waiting list is of six months duration or less; if he will publish separately a list of those housing authorities who have had 100 or more council dwellings vacant for periods of three months or more; and if he will make a statement.

Mrs. Roe

The information requested is not available centrally. However, English local authorities' housing investment programme returns include the number of their dwellings that have been vacant for more than six months and those authorities reporting 100 or more such dwellings vacant at April 1987 are listed in the table. Most of these dwellings were not available for letting, as they were undergoing or awaiting works, or awaiting sale or demolition.
