HC Deb 08 February 1988 vol 127 c86W
Mr. Hume

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what figures are available to indicate the numbers of criminal injuries claims for each year since 1975 arising from so-called punishment attacks, the total amounts of compensation paid and the number of cases contested in court.

Mr. Stanley

[holding answer 29 January 1988]: The information that is readily available relates only to criminal injury claims for punishment shootings in the form of "kneecapping" and is as follows:

in each case; how many were involved in each party; how many brought their spouses or other relatives; and, in those cases, who paid.

Mr. Stanley

[holding answer 3 February 1988]: Invitations to United States politicians to visit Northern Ireland at public expense are a matter for my right hon. Friend the Foreign Secretary.
