§ Mrs. CurriePeople in independent residential care or nursing homes can claim supplementary benefit to help with their fees. Information on the numbers claiming supplementary benefit in homes in the area of the Basingstoke and North Hampshire health authority could be obtained for this period only at disproportionate cost.
Health authorities may enter into contractual arrangements with private health care providers, but must meet the costs incurred. Health authorities have no power to pay part of the costs of a patient's care in private establishments.
