HL Deb 08 February 1988 vol 493 cc95-6WA
Lord Dormand of Easington

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What is the number of adult students undertaking full-time degree courses, and whether they propose to increase it.

The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Department of Education and Science (Baroness Hooper)

In 1986, 41,800 home students entering higher education courses in Great Britain were aged 21 or over. The Government's plans envisage this number rising to over 46,000. The projections do not differentiate between entry to first degree courses and to other courses of higher education.
