HC Deb 05 February 1988 vol 126 cc803-4W
Mr. Burt

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services what proposals he has to improve information about medicines.

Mr. Newton

I have placed in the Library a copy of a consultation package which has been issued on information about medicines, and which is being made widely available to professional, consumer, and industrial organisations.

The aim is promoting the safer use of medicines by improving information available to the public, doctors and pharmacists. In particular, it is proposed to require clearer label warnings and instructions, more information about composition, and manufacturer site identification. As required by S129(6) of the Medicines Act 1968, the next step is to have the views of representative organisations before making regulations.
