HC Deb 04 February 1988 vol 126 cc699-700W
Mr. Darling

To ask the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster what extra resources he proposes to provide to trading standards departments to inspect equipment for use in trade.

Mr. Butcher

The rate support grant settlements for England, Scotland and Wales, approved by Parliament on 9 and 15 December 1987, make adequate provision for trading standards—consumer protection in 1988–89. It is for each local weights and measures authority to provide from the rate support grant for its trading standard department to give effect to the purposes of the Weights and Measures Act.
