To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services how adjudication officers will ascertain the amount of income or capital that would become available to a claimant on application to the social fund, for the purposes of regulations 42(2) and 51(2) of the Income Support (General) Regulations 1987.

Payments from the social fund are disregarded when calculating a claimant's weekly entitlement to income support. Therefore, adjudication officers need not consider the provisions of regulations 42(2) and 51(2) of the Income Support (General) Regulations 1987 in relation to such payments. Repayments of social fund payments, however, may be made by deductions from the claimant's weekly income support entitlement.
