Mr. William Ross

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what steps he intends to take and what measures are at present in force to maintain the present standards of health in agricultural and horticultural stocks and crops in Northern Ireland.

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales how many applications there have been for registered fair rents in each of the last five years in each county in Wales.

Mr. Grist

The number of applications received for Registered Fair Rents between 1983 and 1987 are as follows:

prohibitions on imports of plant material and for measures to eradicate outbreaks of diseases and pests in Northern Ireland and to prevent the spread of certain serious pests and diseases already established there.

Industry interests are being consulted about proposals to consolidate and update present arrangements in line with current circumstances.
