§ Mrs. ChalkerNo ministerial visits to South Africa are at present planned.
§ 37. Mr. HunterTo ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will name those black moderate leaders within South Africa, or their representatives, whom he has met since June 1983 and the places and dates of his meetings.
§ Mrs. ChalkerSince June 1983 my right hon. and learned Friend has met many representatives of black opinion in South Africa including Chief Buthelezi, Archbishop Tutu, Chief Mabuza, members of the House of Delegates and members of the National African Federated Chamber of Commerce. In the last 18 months, I have met among others, Dr. Phatudi, Archbishop Tutu, Mr. Gumede and Dr. Boesak.
§ 67. Mr. WorthingtonTo ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what representations he has made to the South African Government about the recent curbs on legal trade union activity.
§ Mrs. ChalkerWe have welcomed the legalisation of black trades unions in South Africa. We continue to follow their development with interest. We have made repeated representations to the South African Government about the detention without charge of trades unionists and others.
