§ Mrs. CurrieMortality data for 1987 are still being processed: during 1986, meningococcal infection (ICD 9 036) was mentioned on the death certificates of four usual residents of Wirral county district. Of these one was meningococcal meningitis (ICD 036.0). Mortality data at hospital level are not released for reasons of confidentiality.
In 1986, there were 30 notifications of acute meningitis from Wirral county district. Of these, 17 were meningococcal meningitis. The figures for 1987 were 28 and 21, respectively. Hospital data are not collected on the infectious disease notification form.
