HC Deb 03 February 1988 vol 126 c672W
Rev. Martin Smyth

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland how many people in Northern Ireland in the last three years for which figures are available have been given free eyesight tests and free dental examinations; and how many cases of glaucoma have been diagnosed in Northern Ireland over that period.

Mr. Needham

Figures are not kept which identify the number of people who receive free sight tests and dental examinations but the number of tests carried out in Northern Ireland in each category over the last three years was:

Sight tests Dental examinations
1985 219,259 780,463
1986 226,080 801,202
1987 240,660 817,723

The number of glaucoma cases diagnosed is not available and could be obtained only at disproportionate cost.
