§ 20. Mr. RoweTo ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs whether he is satisfied with the progress being made towards achieving co-operation in foreign policy between European Community members.
§ Mrs. ChalkerYes. The ability to speak and act together with the Twelve is a significant help in achieving British objectives. The Twelve have issued declarations on a wide range of major international issues as they have arisen. At the European Council in December 1987 they welcomed the INF agreement between the United States and Soviet Union; called on the Soviet Union to withdraw all its troops from Afghanistan by a date in 1988; reiterated their support for an international conference on the middle east; expressed their concern at the situation in the occupied territories; and called for an end to the Iran-Iraq conflict and a follow-up resolution to enforce implementation of Security Council resolution 598.
§ 51. Mr. KnoxTo ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs when he next proposes to have discussions with his European Community partners concerning the developments of common European foreign policies.
§ Mrs. ChalkerMy right hon. and learned Friend will be meeting his colleagues from the Twelve to discuss European political co-operation matters on 8 February.
