§ Mr. Tim SmithTo ask the Secretary of State for Transport what changes are proposed to the 1987–88 cash limit on his Department's votes and to his Department's running costs limit.
§ Mr. ChannonSubject to parliamentary approval of the necessary Supplementary Estimate, the cash limit for class VIII vote 4 is to be increased by £1,477,000 from £116,179,000 to £117,656,000. The cash limit for class VIII vote 2 is to be reduced by £4,806,000 from £192,400,000 to £187,594,000 to take account of transfers of:—
- (a) £2,500,000 to the non-cash limited class VIII vote 3 as a partial offset to the increased cost of port severances in the spring Supplementary Estimate on that vote, which is also subject to parliamentary approval;
- (b) £ 1,477,000 to class VIII vote 4 as an offset to the spring Supplementary Estimate on that vote; and
622 - (c) £829,000 to class VIII vote 5 as a partial offset to increased public expenditure on rural bus grants on that vote.
The balance of the spring Supplementary Estimate on class VIII vote 3 will be charged to the reserve and the balance of the increased requirement for rural bus grants will be offset by savings on class VIII vote 5, in neither case adding to the planning total of public expenditure.
The running costs limit of the Department of Transport has been reduced by £80,000 from £272,850,000 to £272,770,000. This £80,000 will be transferred to the running costs limit of the Department of the Environment for Northern Ireland to cover the cost of additional work which it is undertaking as the agent of the Department of Transport on the licensing and registration of vehicles in Northern Ireland.
