HC Deb 02 February 1988 vol 126 c528W
Mr. Vaz

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what representations he has received from the chief constable of Leicestershire concerning a request for additional officers; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Janner

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department when he last received an application by the Leicestershire police authority for an increase in the authorised police establishment of the Leicestershire constabulary; what was the request; and what was his response thereto.

Mr. Douglas Hogg

Following a review of the force by the chief constable, the Leicestershire police authority wrote on 15 January seeking approval for an increase in the force establishment of 45 posts in 1988–89, 33 posts in 1989–90 and 13 posts in 1990–91.

The police authority has been informed that its application will be considered, in the light of advice from Her Majesty's inspectorate of constabulary, along with applications which have been received from other authorities for increases in establishment in 1988–89.
