HC Deb 02 February 1988 vol 126 cc548-9W
30. Mr. Ashley

To ask the Secretary of State for Employment what further steps he intends to take to improve the employment prospects of disabled people.

Mr. Lee

I have no proposals to put forward at this time. I shall be reviewing the position in the light of the Report by the National Audit Office on employment assistance to disabled adults and the report by the National Advisory Council on Employment of Disabled People which reviewed the principles underlying employment provisions.

In the meantime my Department and the Manpower Services Commission will continue to promote vigorously employment opportunities for people with disabilities, both through existing special schemes as well as the full range of employment and training programmes.

84. Mr. Malcolm Bruce

To ask the Secretary of State for Employment what recognition he will give to the needs of disabled people in the forthcoming White Paper on adult training.

Mr. Fowler

The forthcoming White Paper on unemployment and training will set out the Government's decisions about the new training programme for unemployed adults. The Government recognise that disabled people have particular needs and these will be fully recognised in the new programme.
