HC Deb 02 February 1988 vol 126 c591W
Mr. Nicholas Bennett

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services what has been the rate of deaths per 10,000 women having D and C operations in England and Wales in each of the last 25 years for which figures are available of(a) anaesthetic deaths arising directly or indirectly out of such operations, (b) deaths due to embolism directly or indirectly linked to such operations and (c) other deaths directly due to such operations; and if he will break down this rate by whether or not the D and C operation also involved an abortion.

Mrs. Currie

I regret that this information is not available centrally.

Mr. Nicholas Bennett

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services what information he has concerning the total number of D and C operations performed in England and Wales in each of the last 25 years for which figures are available.

Mrs. Currie

I shall let my hon. Friend have such information as is available without incurring disproportionate costs as soon as possible.
