HC Deb 02 February 1988 vol 126 c556W
57. Mrs. Virginia Bottomley

To ask the Secretary of State for Employment what plans he has to meet the chairman of the British Tourist Board to discuss American tourists visiting the United Kingdom; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Lee

I have no plans to meet the chairman of the British tourist authority to discuss this topic in particular, but I maintain a very close interest in all the United Kingdom's tourism markets, and meet the chairman of the British tourist authority frequently.

61. Mr. Roger King

To ask the Secretary of State for Employment what was the average length of stay of United States visitors to Britain in 1987.

Mr. Lee

An estimate of the average length of stay of United States visitors to Britain is not yet available for the whole of 1987. However, during the first half of the year (January to June), the average length of stay of United States visitors to the United Kingdom was nine days.
