To ask the Secretary of State for Defence if the responsibility of the controller establishments, research and nuclear, in relation to the Trident programme extends to procurement of the reentry vehicle.

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence what is the latest figure for the real cost reduction in Trident warhead procurement over the 1981 estimate as last given in the Comproller and Auditor General's report on "Control and Management of the Trident Programme" (HC 27), paragraph 3.27; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Sainsbury

The latest estimate for Trident warhead procurement shows a real cost reduction of about 5 per cent. on the 1981 estimate and is included in the overall Trident estimated cost of £9,043 million announced by my right hon. Friend on 21 January 1988.

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence how missiles from the United Kingdom Trident force will be transported to and from the United States/United Kingdom missile pool in the United States of America.

Mr. Sainsbury

The United Kingdom's Trident D5 missiles will be transported to and from the United States facility at Kings bay, Georgia by the United Kingdom's Vanguard class SSBNs.
