To ask the Secretary of State for Transport how many major road schemes were completed in 1987.

In 1987, a total of 28 major road schemes in the national roads programme were completed. The list is as follows:

  • A1 Clifton-Stannington bridge improvement
  • A2 Barham crossroads GSJ
  • A6 Chapel-en-le-Frith bypass
  • Al0 Buntingford bypass
  • A11 Wymondham-Cringleford
  • Al2 Martlesham bypass
  • A19 Ricall and Barlby bypass
  • A20 Sidcup bypass
  • A30 Exeter-Okehampton stage 3
  • A38 Belvedere Cross-Haldon hill GSJ
  • A38 Hilliards Cross GSJ
  • A39 Bideford bypass
  • A43 Brackley bypass
  • A43 Towcester bypass
  • A47 Peterborough Longthorpe GSJ
  • A47 Peterborough Westwood GSJ
  • A47 Postwick-Blofield dualling
  • A47 Wardley hill improvement
  • A52 Barthomley link-M6
  • A69 Eighton Lodge junction improvement
  • A303 Furze Hedge improvement
  • A422 Stratford northern bypass
  • A406 South Woodford-Barking relief road
  • A435 Evesham bypass

These schemes have added 72 miles to the network at a total works cost of about £275 million.
