§ Mr. CousinsTo ask the Secretary of State for Energy if, pursuant to his answer of 22 January on the Radiation Effects Research Foundation report, he will place the National Radiological Protection Board GS-9 document in the Library; what is the membership of the working group advising the Health and Safety Commission: if the remit of this working group includes a re-evaluation of the cost factors in nuclear power investment and the need for any modifications to existing nuclear installations; when the working group plans to report to the Health and Safety Commission; and if the working group's advice will be made available to any planning inquiry into new nuclear power installations.
§ Mr. Michael SpicerI am informed by my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Employment that the 475W Health and Safety Commission's Working Group on Ionising Radiations (WGIR) has the following terms of reference:
To consider all matters concerning the Ionising Radiations Regulations 1985 and related radiation protection matters that are referred to it by the HSE or the Commission and to advise the Commission.Members of the working group have been nominated by the CBI, the TUC, local authority interests, the National Radiological Protection Board, Government Departments and professional bodies. Among the issues to be addressed initially by WGIR is what action to recommend the commission to take on the advice on dose limitation provided by national and international bodies. It is expected to have reported to the commission on this by the end of 1988. Wider distribution of any report will be a matter for the commission.
