§ 35. Mr. BurnsTo ask the Secretary of State for Transport what proposals his Department has for improving vehicle access through the east end of London to Essex and East Anglia.
§ Mr. Peter BottomleyThere is an extensive package of proposals for improvements through east London to Essex and East Anglia. The A406 South Woodford to Barking relief road opened before Christmas. Subject to the completion of statutory procedures, a link road between the M11 at Redbridge and the A102(M) at Hackney Wick is planned for start of works in 1990. Improvements to the A13 and A127 are also planned.
A number of studies are also looking into traffic problems in east London. Stage II of the East London assessment study is now under way, with consultants developing a range of options to relieve the transport-related problems of that area. Consultants have been looking into possible improvements to the A13 between Limehouse and Dagenham and the future needs of the A127. A study of the A12 within Essex was also started recently.
