HC Deb 01 February 1988 vol 126 c443W
Mr. Fatchett

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science whether he will list the additional staff required by his Department in 1988–89 to deal with the Education Reform Bill; and if he will state the additional cost.

Mrs. Rumbold

The recently published public expenditure White Paper, Cm 288, shows for 1988–89 planned staff numbers of 2,560 and running costs provision of £66.161 million compared with a target of 2,480 staff at 1 April 1988 and running costs provision of £58.3 million for 1987–88. Final dispositions have still to be made, but it is expected that most of the extra posts will be concerned directly or indirectly with the Education Reform Bill.
