§ Mr. WrayTo ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many prosecutions for drink and driving accidents causing(a) death, (b) injuries and (c) damage to property for each year since 1974, have resulted in (i) acquittals, (ii) guilty verdicts, (iii) imprisonment, (iv) fines and (v) compensation to the victims.
§ Mr. Douglas HoggInformation on court proceedings and sentencing at all courts in England and Wales for driving, etc. after consuming alcohol or taking drugs is published annually in "Offences Relating to Motor Vehicles, England and Wales, Supplementary Tables" (tables 1, 2, 5 and 8 of the issue for 1986). Information on compensation orders could be provided only at disproportionate cost. Information on deaths, injuries and property damage resulting from these offences is not collected centrally; however, information is published in "Road Accidents, Great Britain, 1986" on the number of persons killed or injured in accidents where the driver failed a roadside screening breath test. Copies of both publications are in the Library.
