§ Mr. MaddenTo ask the Secretary of State for Social Services (1) if he will undertake an immediate inquiry into the impact on patient services in Bradford of cuts in expenditure by Bradford health authority of £2,100,000 by 1989–90;
(2) what is the latest estimate of Bradford health authority's revenue and capital expenditure for 1987–88; how much non-recurring allocation has been received by Bradford health authority; and whether he expects the authority to be in deficit at the end of the current financial year;
(3) what requests he has made of Bradford health authority to reduce expenditure in 1988–89 and 1989–90; what deficit on revenue expenditure will accrue in 1988–89 and 1989–90 if no reduction in expenditure is agreed; what 485W reduction in revenue expenditure is required in 1988–89 and 1989–90 to avoid deficits arising in each year; and if he will make a statement.

The hon. Member may therefore wish to contact the regional health authority chairman for the information he is seeking.
§ Mr. MaddenTo ask the Secretary of State for Social Services what is the effect on anticipated deficits of Bradford health authority of each per cent. pay awards which are not met by central Government; how many staff are now employed by the authority; how many staff were employed by the authority in each of the last five years: and if he will make a statement.
§ Mrs. CurrieThe table sets out the number of staff directly employed by Bradford health authority for the years 1982 to 1986, the latest year for which data are centrally available. It is not possible to calculate accurately centrally the cost of each percentage increase of pay awards for individual district health authorities.

§ Mrs. CurrieThe members of Bradford health authority are appointed by the Yorkshire regional health authority and Bradford city council. Details are not held centrally but may be obtained from the chairman of the regional health authority. Health authority members do not receive a salary but are entitled to claim travel and subsistence allowances and, in certain circumstances, to some compensation for loss of earnings.
