HL Deb 01 February 1988 vol 492 c981WA
Lord Mason of Barnsley

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether the sale of low-alcohol and alcohol-free beers at prices higher than alcoholic beers is undermining the Government's campaign to discourage drinking and driving, and if so whether they will make representation to the Brewers' Society to rectify the situation.

The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Department of Transport (Lord Brabazon of Tara)

The important point is that brewers are now making considerable efforts to ensure the alcohol-free drinks are widely and easily available. I hope that the growth in sales of such drinks will lead to lower prices. I have no evidence that prices are at present undermining the campaign.
