HC Deb 22 December 1988 vol 144 c406W
Mr. Franks

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport how much his Department spent on roads in Cumbria in(a) 1978–79, (b) 1983–84 and (c) 1987–88; and what is the proposed expenditure for the financial years 1989–90 and 1990–91.

Mr. Peter Bottomley

We spent £11.9 million in 1983–84 and £10.1 million in 1987–88 on building, improving and maintaining trunk roads and motorways in Cumbria. Figures for 1978–79 are not available by country. Proposed expenditure levels for 1989–90 and 1990–91 have not yet been determined.

We also support expenditure on the county council's more important local roads through the transport supplementary grant system.
