To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what was the number of recorded uses of firearms by police in Scotland in 1979 and in the latest available year.

There were two incidents in 1979 and four in 1987 during which firearms were used by the police in Scotland. On each occasion the firearms were used for the destruction of animals.
