To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security how many appeals to the Social Security appeal tribunals in Scotland were raised against refusal of single payments; how many of such appeals were successful; and what proportion the number which were successful is to the total number, showing in his answer the figures for each of the last 10 years prior to the abolition of single payments.

The table gives the information required. Figures for the years 1978 and 1979 relate to discretionary payments called exceptional needs payments. Figures from 1980 are for single payments payable under the single payments regulations introduced in that year.
