HC Deb 21 December 1988 vol 144 c303W
Mr. Jim Marshall

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what is:(a) the total amount of money allocated to the National Health Service in Northern Ireland for nurses' pay and (b) the amount allocated to each health board for nurses' pay in each of the years 1984 to 1988.

Mr. Needham

Allocations are made to boards to enable them to deliver the full range of health and personal social services. The setting of budgets within allocations is a matter for boards; provision for nurses pay is not separately identified within the allocations. However, total expenditure on nurses' pay in 1987–88 was £185 million.
