Mr. Butcher

Our existing action programme on teacher recruitment includes special bursaries for trainee teachers, substantial local and national advertising and the establishment of the "Teaching as a Career" unit. Action is focused on tackling shortages in secondary subjects and in particular regions. We aim to recruit teachers from all sources including mature entrants. The programme is under continual review and we are prepared to take further action as necessary.
