To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science whether he will make a statement on the take-up of school governor posts by representatives of local communities and businesses.

Mr. Butcher

The information available so far from local authorities suggests that most schools are successfully filling all the places on their governing bodies. In very many areas considerable interest has been shown by the local community, including business representatives. That is welcome.
